‘Never seen it so bad’: violence and impunity in Brazil’s Amazon

Dr Felipe Milanez, the author of “Memorias Sertanistas“, was awarded a doctorate by the University of Coimbra in 2015 and is now a professor at UFRB in Bahia, Brazil. He collaborated with EJOLT since 2012 as a member of the European Network of Political Ecology ENTITLE. Felipe has a blog in the Brazilian magazine Carta Capital and was recently interviewed by The Guardian on the wave of violent dispossession in the Brazilian Amazon in which he said “Violence has been legitimized as a normal part of politics. It has become informally “acceptable.” I’ve never seen, working for the past 10 years in the Amazon, a situation so bad. All of my friends in Marabá receive death threats”
